Dear Advanced Learning Academy Families,

Many of you have asked about how to volunteer in your child’s school.  In SAISD, all volunteers are required to complete this Volunteer Information Packet (linked) and attend a volunteer orientation at the school.  

We will hold two volunteer orientation sessions on Wednesday, August 3rd at Fox Tech during our choice slip night for 6th-10th graders.  While the choice slip night is only for 6th-10th grade students, all families K-10 are invited to attend the volunteer orientation at 5:30 pm or 6:30 pm in the music building. We anticipate needing volunteers the week of August 15th to help prepare K-3 classrooms at our elementary campus and 4-10 classroom at our Fox Tech location.

My apologies on the late notification about these orientations. We will be scheduling additional volunteer orientation meetings in the coming weeks for any families unable to attend on Wednesday.

Advanced Learning Academy Summer Update #2

Dear Advanced Learning Academy Families,

We have been working with several SAISD departments over the last few weeks to finalize our school day start and end times.  The final school times are listed below:

Advanced Learning Academy at Austin (K-3): 8:30 am to 3:45 pm
Advanced Learning Academy at Fox Tech  (4-10): 8:30 to 4:00 pm
Students may arrive as early as 7:30 am. We will share more details about drop off and pick up locations in the coming weeks.

The SAISD transportation department is working to finalize the 2016-2017 bus schedule for Advanced Learning Academy students. As soon as the schedules are finalized, we will post them to the transportation page on our website (linked).

On Wednesday, August 3, 2016 we are hosting a Choice Slip night for our 6th-10th grade students from 4-7 pm in the Fox Tech multi-purpose room in the campus’ music building. Along with selecting an elective, we will be gathering information from families about math placement. If an end-of-the year report card is available, please bring it with you. The information you provide will help to inform your student’s initial math placement and will be revisited once the school year begins and we gather additional data.  Families may come by anytime between the hours of 4-7 p.m., and you should expect to spend 30-45 minutes. Finally,  if you have not completed a SAISD registration packet, you will be able to do so Wednesday, August 3, 2016.  A complete listing of the necessary registration paperwork can be found HERE.

We know you are eager to meet the teachers who will be working with your children this year. Our Meet the Teacher event is set for Saturday, August 20, 2016 from 9-11 am at both our Fox Tech and Austin locations.

Dear advanced learning academy Families,

I am writing today to share advanced learning academy celebrations and updates as the new school year quickly approaches.

Along with welcoming students to the advanced learning academy, which number well over 500, we have been busy hiring the exceptional faculty for the new school.  We are pleased to share that we have a creative, innovative, and committed group of 37 teachers eager to meet families and to open the school at the end of August. We are planning a back-to-school event in August to give families an opportunity to meet each other along with faculty and staff.

Over the last few weeks, we have also finalized the advanced learning academy website (linked).  The website includes the most up-to-date information about transportation, uniform, and after school care.  As more elements of the school are designed and finalized, we will add this information to the webpage. I would also like to highlight the “Ms. Bieser’s Blog” tab at the top of the webpage.  Throughout the summer and school year, I will share upcoming events and updates through the blog and via email.

As a reminder, if your child is not currently enrolled in a SAISD school or is a non-SAISD resident, you need to complete a registration packet and a non-resident transfer application and agreement with Brandy Cedillo, Fox Tech High School registrar, between the hours of 8:00 am and 4 pm. Please refer to the list below for a complete listing of necessary paperwork:

Parent’s photo ID

Proof of child’s identity and age (Birth Certificate or other)

Child’s social security card, if available (preferred, but not required).

Child’s recent academic records

Proof of residence

Up-to- date immunization records

All of us at the advanced learning academy are excited about the possibilities of the school and the opportunity to make all your wishes and dreams for both your child and the school come true. We are looking forward to a wonderful school year!
